On Friday, October 2, Miranda Lambert released her highly anticipated album titled Crisco, featuring a standout track called “Snakeskin Boots,” a thrilling collaboration with rising star Ella Langley.
The song is a product of the creative minds of Lambert, Jesse Frasure, Kris Wilkinson, Natalie Hemby, and Brendan McLoughlin. It instantly immerses listeners in a nostalgic, cinematic Western atmosphere. The track opens with a captivating 30-second introduction, highlighted by mandolin melodies and the nostalgic sound of a vintage recording.
In the first verse, Lambert and Langley take turns singing lines, eventually merging their voices in a beautiful harmony during the chorus. The collaboration draws inspiration from the soundtracks of late-1960s Western films, combining a retro vibe with a contemporary twist, reminiscent of a Quentin Tarantino masterpiece.
This mid-tempo piece radiates an exhilarating energy, showcasing a rebellious protagonist who is always ready for an escape. Described as both alluring and dangerous, this woman embodies freedom and independence, with her snakeskin boots symbolizing her refusal to be confined.
As the duo sings, “If the good all die young / She gonna slip the hangman’s noose / Stealin’ diamonds / In her snakeskin boots,” they capture the essence of a fearless spirit that resonates with listeners.
Lambert disclosed that she originally penned the song with Langley’s unique vocal style in mind. Their previous collaborations have fostered a strong creative bond, with Lambert describing them as “kindred spirits.” Together, they have worked on Langley’s single “Choosin’ Texas” and Lambert produced Langley’s latest album, Dandelion.
Crisco marks a significant evolution in Lambert’s music, showcasing her ability to blend traditional country with disco influences, telling tales of love, loss, and life on the road. “We didn’t set out to create a retro album, yet the music took us in that direction,” Lambert explained.
In honor of her album launch, Lambert performed live at Nashville’s new venue, The Truth, on October 1. This sold-out show featured a 12-piece string section, a first for Lambert’s band, enhancing the evening’s musical experience.
The week of the album release includes another performance planned for October 6 at Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth. Crisco also features collaborations with Chris Stapleton on the nominated track “A Song To Sing” and a tribute to Jim Croce with a new rendition of “I’ll Have To Say I Love You In A Song.”
