Emily Ann Roberts has adopted a playful approach to delight her fans. At her recent concerts, she’s made it a tradition to mingle with the audience incognito, surprising some lucky attendees by upgrading their tickets. However, her previous disguises have not been very effective, prompting her to step up her game.
During her performance at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, NY, as part of Thomas Rhett’s Soundtrack to Life Tour, Roberts documented her efforts to go undercover. In a humorous video, she shared her transformation process as she got “unready” after her set. Following a prior attempt she deemed a “massive failure,” she decided to adopt a look that was drastically different from her usual stage persona.
Roberts swapped her sparkly stage attire for casual gym shoes, denim shorts, and a button-down shirt. She took off her hair extensions and tucked her hair under a trucker hat from T.N.B. Supply Co. To further obscure her identity, she even decided to draw on a fake beard.
“Okay, this fit should be a better one,” she remarked after her outfit change. “I don’t have time to remove my makeup, so we’re just going to draw a beard. I have never drawn a beard on before.” She humorously attempted to create some shadows with her makeup to enhance the look, admitting, “it’s just getting worse.”
Once her disguise was complete, her bandmate playfully commented on her transformation, jokingly asking, “Who is this? Who did Chris let in here?” To which Roberts humorously replied, “Some weirdo from East Tennessee.”
Finally, she ventured into the crowd to execute “Operation Ticket Upgrade.” Upon spotting fans seated at the back of the lawn area, she exclaimed, “These people need to be closer.” Starting off strong by handing out tickets to unsuspecting fans, her disguise soon faltered as fans began to recognize her, asking for hugs, photos, and autographs. She chuckled at the realization that her incognito plan wasn’t as effective as she had hoped.
“Okay, well I spoke too soon. I’m going to have to come up with a better disguise,” Roberts admitted at the conclusion of the video. Despite her comedic attempt at going incognito, her mission was a success, as she managed to create unforgettable memories for her fans.
Roberts, known for her hit “Laundry,” is set to perform on several more dates with Thomas Rhett across states like Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, and Texas. She will continue her tour through October before heading overseas to join Cody Johnson for performances across England, the U.K., and Ireland.
