Kacey Musgraves and Kristi Noem’s Social Media Feud

Introduction

A recent exchange on social media involving Kristi Noem and Kacey Musgraves has generated considerable buzz following Musgraves’ concert in Texas over the weekend.

The Initial Post

On Sunday, October 11, Texas State Representative James Talarico shared a couple of images with Musgraves on X (formerly known as Twitter), after attending one of her performances during the Middle of Nowhere Tour. Talarico thanked Musgraves with the caption: “Thank you for having me last night, Kacey Musgraves.”

Noem’s Response

The day after Talarico’s post, Noem, who previously held the position of secretary of Homeland Security, reposted the images and expressed her disapproval of both Musgraves and Talarico. She emphasized her support for Republican candidate Ken Paxton in the upcoming 2026 U.S. Senate race, contrasting him with Talarico, who is currently leading in polls in Texas.

Involvement of Ella Langley

Noem also mentioned country singer Ella Langley, referring to her popular song “Choosin’ Texas.” In her post, she stated, “I’ll take Ella Langley over Kacey Musgraves any day. And if I’m choosin’ Texas, I’ll take Ken Paxton over James Talarico.” This comment prompted Langley to quickly distance herself from the controversy by untagging herself from the post.

Musgraves’ Retort

Musgraves responded to Noem’s remarks with a sharp comment referencing the backlash surrounding Noem’s memoir, “No Going Back: The Truth on What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward.” In her book, Noem faced criticism for recounting a story about having to shoot her 14-month-old dog, Cricket, due to behavioral issues. Musgraves quipped, “I don’t think you have a dog in this fight but if you did you would have shot it.”

Continued Reactions

Talarico later posted another image with Musgraves on X, captioning it, “Don’t Mess with Texas.” Following the exchange, Musgraves utilized her Instagram stories to highlight important dates for Texas voters, including early voting and election day on November 3.

Background on Kristi Noem

Noem, who previously served as secretary of Homeland Security, was removed from her position in March 2023 amid various controversies. Subsequently, she was appointed as the U.S. special envoy to the Shield of the Americas during the Trump Administration.

Public Reaction

While neither Musgraves, Langley, nor Noem have made further comments on the situation, social media has been abuzz with fans sharing their thoughts, particularly noting Langley’s decision to step back from the discourse.
