Emerging country artist Zach John King has announced the cancellation of all his shows for the next two weeks after the unexpected death of his father, Erick.
On Tuesday, July 14, King took to social media to share the heartbreaking news, stating that his father “suddenly went home to Jesus.” Despite the sorrow, he expressed a touching tribute in memory of the man who profoundly influenced his life.
“He was our family’s anchor. My best friend. The finest man I will ever know,” King wrote. The singer reflected on how his father’s faith allowed him to find joy even during challenging times, a quality King has always admired.
“Those who knew him recognized that his gaze was never fixed on this weary world. It would often frustrate me how he could maintain his joy, even in life’s toughest moments. He would say that his joy stemmed from ‘the hope I have in Jesus,’” King shared.
While the exact cause of death remains undisclosed, King mentioned that in a “blink of an eye,” his father ascended to Jesus, “where his soul longed to be.”
“We wanted 25 more years with him, and that pain will linger for the rest of my life. However, I find comfort in knowing my dad is waiting for me in the very place all of our souls yearn for,” he added.
King will be taking two weeks off from performances to grieve alongside his family, after which he intends to resume his career, honoring what he believes his father would have wanted.
He concluded his message with a poignant statement that pays tribute to his late father, accompanied by a slideshow of cherished photos capturing their relationship over the years. “I’ll leave ya’ll with what he said every morning even when I didn’t want to hear it… ‘today is the day the [Lord] has made I will rejoice and be glad in it.’ I love you dad. I’ll see you soon.”
Hailing from Fayetteville, Georgia, Zach John King’s passion for country music was nurtured by his grandparents, while his father broadened his musical horizons by introducing him to various genres through a preloaded iPod shuffle featuring artists from Otis Redding to Alabama.
His father’s impact on his life was not limited to music; it is evident that he played a significant role in shaping the person and artist King has become. Fans have flooded the comments with messages of support as the family goes through this tough time.
Originally, King was set to perform at several fairs and festivals, including Country Jam USA, Country Thunder Wisconsin, and Freedom Fest in Little Falls, MN, along with supporting acts for Luke Bryan’s Word on the Street Tour and Riley Green’s Cowboy As It Gets Tour.
As of now, it remains uncertain when Zach John King will be back on stage.
