In a recent conversation with Billboard, Sarah Trahern, the long-serving CEO of the Country Music Association, provided a glimpse into what fans can look forward to at the upcoming 60th Annual CMA Awards and discussed Lainey Wilson’s role as the event’s host.
With only 20 days left until the grand celebration of country music, anticipation is high for this significant milestone event. Trahern, who has been at the helm of the CMA since January 1, 2014, will be stepping down from her position in December and took this opportunity to share her insights about the awards ceremony.
This year’s CMA Awards will not only mark its 60th anniversary but will also honor the rich history and legacy of country music, akin to the celebrations of the 50th Annual CMA Awards held in 2016. However, Trahern highlighted that this year’s focus will be more on the impact of ’90s country music and its legendary figures who continue to inspire today’s stars.
Trahern noted, “You can’t get hotter than the ’90s now in a lot of ways. While we did reach back to the early days for the 50th, this time we’ll concentrate on the current artists’ heroes from the ’90s. Fans today are likely to recognize icons like Tim McGraw, Brooks & Dunn, and Faith Hill, who are still relevant and influential in the industry. This will be a significant aspect of the 60th celebration.”
Fans can also expect to see a fresh stage design intended to visually narrate the history of country music. Trahern explained, “We are redesigning some elements of our set to visually reflect the heritage of our genre. This will allow us to merge contemporary elements with the history of country music effectively.”
While the CMA has yet to unveil the full lineup of performers and presenters for this year’s event, one familiar face is confirmed to return: Lainey Wilson. The reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year will host the ceremony solo for the third consecutive year. She initially co-hosted in 2024 before taking on the role alone in 2025.
Trahern praised Wilson as the “perfect person” to lead the event this year. She noted Wilson’s successful career, her growing international fanbase, and her deep appreciation for the history of country music. “Lainey’s authenticity and genuine love for the genre resonate with audiences, making her an ideal host,” Trahern added.
The 60th Annual CMA Awards will be broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, November 18, at 8/7c on ABC and Disney+. The ceremony will also be available for streaming on Hulu the following day.
More details regarding performers, presenters, and special guests will be announced in the upcoming weeks. Fans can view the complete list of nominees online.
