Tucker Wetmore’s summer is heating up with his latest single, “Who Told You That,” a catchy anthem that explores his efforts to maintain a romantic image with a new love interest.
Written by a talented team including Jordan Schmidt, Ashley Gorley, Hunter Phelps, and Michael Tyler, the lively song sees Wetmore confronting the stereotypes of being a heartbreaker who isn’t capable of commitment. He argues that he is more than what the gossip suggests, vowing to demonstrate that he can be the kind of partner who serves breakfast in bed, enjoys sunset strolls on the beach, and openly shares his feelings.
From the very first note, listeners are treated to an upbeat, flirtatious tune that showcases Wetmore’s smooth vocals and relaxed style. The track delivers an enjoyable and heartfelt listening experience, making it easy to believe in the sincerity of the narrator’s words.
The chorus stands out as Wetmore’s heartfelt request not to be confined by the town’s rumors. Rather than allowing external chatter to shape his identity, he emphasizes the ways he intends to be there for his partner. The lyrics reflect his commitment to proving his worth:
“I’ll take a walk on the beach/ I’ll write your name in the sand/ Ain’t no romantic in me/ I don’t know who told you that…”
Upon its release, “Who Told You That” became the most-added track at country radio, amassing 89 first-week adds, marking Wetmore’s most successful debut to date. The single also made its entry at No. 54 on the Country Aircheck/Mediabase chart.
This week, Wetmore announced the upcoming launch of his six-song “Sunburn Mixtape,” set to release on July 31 under Back Blocks Music/MCA/Mercury Records. The mixtape will feature a mix of three previously released favorites, including “Who Told You That,” along with three new tracks titled “Crazy To Yourself,” “98%,” and “YOURS.”
The Washington native is gearing up to hit the road next month for the second leg of his Brunette World Tour. In September, he will also join Brooks & Dunn for select performances, including a stop at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on September 12.
