Brendan Coulter Shines on The Voice
Brendan Coulter, a 27-year-old singer from Sylvania, Ohio, now residing in New York, captivated the audience during his Blind Audition on The Voice with a rendition of Jelly Roll’s hit song, “Liar.” By the end of his performance, Coulter had made the song entirely his own.
Unique Interpretation of a Popular Hit
Instead of mimicking Jelly Roll’s original version, Coulter infused the track with a pop-country vibe that highlighted his distinctive musical style. He started off slowly, guitar in hand, allowing the tension to build with every line. As the tempo picked up, his powerful vocals remained consistent and engaging, showcasing his ability to reinterpret well-known songs.
Coaches Impressed by Coulter’s Talent
His compelling performance earned him chair turns from both Riley Green and Kelly Clarkson. Green expressed his approval, stating that Jelly Roll would undoubtedly be “proud” of Coulter’s interpretation. He emphasized that Coulter’s inclination towards pop-country songs could resonate well on The Voice, allowing him to exhibit his vocal range and storytelling skills.
Kelly Clarkson’s Enthusiastic Response
Clarkson responded to Coulter’s performance by noting that his ability to make her want to cover the song was impressive. She remarked, “That’s pretty powerful; I like working with people who are passionate about their music. The song was smart, and this competition is all about song selection. Welcome to The Voice, you did a fantastic job.”
The Team Decision
Although Adam Levine didn’t turn his chair, he encouraged Coulter to join Team Kelly, suggesting that her experience in both country and pop genres would be beneficial. However, despite having a preference for Clarkson, Coulter surprised everyone by choosing to be a part of Team Green.
Looking Ahead
By joining Team Green, Coulter gains a mentor known for his smooth voice and impressive range, which could help him advance to the finals and potentially secure the victory. Green noted, “Brendan’s voice is smooth, and he demonstrated impressive range during his performance.” Fans can follow Brendan Coulter’s journey on The Voice, with new episodes airing on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c on NBC and available on Peacock the next day.
