The latest season of The Voice has kicked off, and during the premiere episode, new coach Riley Green stepped out of his iconic red chair to perform with 19-year-old contestant Joe Henley.
Henley first impressed the judges with his rendition of Travis Tritt’s classic “Anymore” during his Blind Audition. His rich baritone immediately caught the ears of both Green and fellow coach Kelly Clarkson, who quickly turned their chairs.
While Adam Levine and Queen Latifah opted not to engage, the competition heated up between Green and Clarkson as they vied for Henley to join their teams. Clarkson seemed particularly interested, especially when she learned that Henley hailed from Alabama like herself.
“I have won this show with country singers, plural. Where do you think all the country singers are going to go? To Riley Green,” Clarkson argued, emphasizing the talent on Green’s team.
Green was clearly impressed by Henley, complimenting him by saying, “You’re amazing, dude. You sound fantastic.” They connected over their musical influences, with Henley mentioning iconic country artists such as Travis Tritt and George Strait.
When asked about his favorite song from Green, Henley mentioned “My Way.” Without hesitation, Green stood up, grabbed his guitar, and joined Henley on stage to perform the track from Green’s album, That’s Just Me. Clarkson added harmonies from her seat, creating a memorable moment.
After the performance, Henley expressed his admiration for Clarkson but ultimately decided to join “Mr. Riley Green.” In celebration of this new partnership, Green presented Henley with a pair of Carhartt bib overalls branded with Team Riley.
The excitement continues as The Voice returns to NBC tonight at 8/7c with more Blind Auditions, promising more incredible talent and emotional moments.
