Neil Perry, a founding member of The Band Perry, has recently opened up about his departure from the ensemble, detailing the events that led to this significant change.
In a series of candid Instagram posts, Neil expressed that he was effectively “terminated” from the band after his sister, Kimberly Perry, expressed a desire to include her husband, Johnny Costello, in the lineup, which originally consisted of Neil, Kimberly, and their brother, Reid.
Neil recounted that by May 2024, the dynamics within the family and the band had deteriorated significantly. He noted that the members were not on speaking terms and that Reid had ceased participating in both personal and professional discussions.
Neil shared that Kimberly approached him about resurrecting the band from its hiatus, and they initially agreed that Reid would not be part of future plans. However, after Kimberly reached out to Reid, she learned that he was open to rejoining the band, despite Neil’s absence from those conversations.
Neil reported that he was presented with three choices: to continue as a duo, to hold auditions for new members, or to have Johnny step in. While he was agreeable to the first two options, it became clear that Kimberly favored the last one. Ultimately, they decided not to proceed, which left Neil feeling uncertain about the band’s future.
Several weeks later, Neil learned that Reid was interested in returning to the band, and he was given just three days to decide whether to continue under the new circumstances. Feeling rushed, Neil asked for more time but was informed that he had run out of options. He realized that continuing with the band was no longer feasible for him due to the existing partnership agreement, which would effectively push him out.
Neil lamented the loss of what he had worked tirelessly to create—a band, a business, and a family. He expressed his sadness over the dissolution of his financial stake and access to the resources he helped build. After witnessing The Band Perry continue with Kimberly and Johnny, he felt that the narrative surrounding the band was diverging from his lived experience.
Following this tumultuous chapter, Neil has decided to channel his emotions into his new music project, WOLVESofJUNE. He aims to transform his grief and frustration into a creative outlet that reflects his journey.
