The shooting occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on Friday. According to the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation, four victims, including the bartender and three patrons, were killed.
However, Brown managed to flee in a white pickup truck. Later, authorities discovered the abandoned vehicle. Consequently, an intense manhunt began.
Lee Johnson stated:
“This community has been deeply hurt by one individual who does not represent what Montanans stand for.”
Following the tragedy, police ordered Anaconda’s 9,000 residents to shelter in place. Therefore, residents locked their doors and stayed inside.
Meanwhile, the Granite County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that SWAT teams searched Brown’s home but did not find him. Furthermore, the FBI and ATF are now supporting local police.
In addition, Governor Greg Gianforte urged everyone to stay calm.
“Please join Susan and me in praying for the victims, their loved ones, and law enforcement,” he said.
Michael Paul Brown is a 45-year-old military veteran. He served in the U.S. Army from 2001 to 2005 and was deployed to Iraq. Afterward, he joined the Montana National Guard until 2009.
Furthermore, Brown’s niece revealed his long struggle with mental illness. “This isn’t just a drunk man going wild,” said Clare Boyle. “He is sick and often confused.”

Anaconda, a historic Montana mining town, is normally quiet. However, the Montana bar shooting has left the entire community shocked.
For example, Barbie Nelson, owner of the Firefly Café, said:
“We are Montana. Guns are not new to us. But our town being locked down has rattled everyone.”
Meanwhile, FBI drones and helicopters have been scanning the mountainous region west of Anaconda. As a result, police have intensified their efforts.
David Gwerder, owner of The Owl Bar, confirmed that Brown knew all of the victims. “He had no disputes with them,” Gwerder said. “I think he just snapped.”
Therefore, authorities believe Brown abandoned his truck and is hiding in the Stumptown Road area. Consequently, the location has been locked down by law enforcement.
Law enforcement continues to expand the search. Moreover, drones, helicopters, and ground units are working around the clock.
As a result, residents remain on high alert. Authorities emphasize that Brown is armed and dangerous. Therefore, they urge anyone with information to call 911.
Authorities will release the victims’ names once their families are notified. Meanwhile, the manhunt continues.
“This is a tragic situation,” Johnson said. “We are using every resource to capture this suspect.”
In conclusion, the Montana bar shooting has left a lasting impact on the small community of Anaconda. However, law enforcement remains determined to bring Michael Paul Brown into custody.
