Over her nearly two-decade journey in the country music scene, Miranda Lambert has gained invaluable insights, yet she often reflects on the lack of female camaraderie during the early stages of her career.
While she benefited from the guidance of male artists like Dierks Bentley and Kenny Chesney, Lambert expressed a desire for a network of women who could relate to the challenges and triumphs of the industry.
Today, Lambert enjoys a strong bond with fellow artists Lainey Wilson and Ella Langley, fostering the sisterhood she longed for in her formative years as an artist. She reminisced about her early career on Apple Music Country’s The Kelleigh Bannen Show, noting, “I didn’t have a group of women to call on the highs and lows at all. There weren’t many of them at the time. It was just Carrie [Underwood] and me for a long time, and we were both figuring it out together.”
Despite the absence of a female support system, Lambert found mentorship and friendship among male superstars. “Dierks was always like a brother to me, and Keith Urban took me under his wing,” she said. “I learned something from every tour with guys like Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley, but I missed the deep, personal conversations with other women in the industry.”
Now, Lambert feels she has that support with Wilson and Langley. She recounted a moment when Lainey called her after her first song reached number one, wanting someone who understood the significance of the achievement. Lambert shared, “I just didn’t have that before, and I realized I really needed it.”
In another conversation with Sid Evans for the Biscuits & Jam podcast, Lambert praised Langley, saying, “I see a lot of my younger self in her. She knows who she is and what she wants, and she’s eager to take me along for the ride.”
The Grammy-winning artist underscored the critical role women play in supporting each other within the country music realm. “We need to lean on each other. Our girl gang is essential for bouncing ideas off each other and celebrating successes together. I feel fortunate to be part of this supportive environment in Nashville,” Lambert expressed.
As they prepare for the 60th Annual CMA Awards, Lambert, Langley, and Wilson are among the most-nominated artists, marking another significant chapter in their careers.
