Luke Bryan Discusses Lionel Richie’s Health
Country musician Luke Bryan recently opened up about his conversation with fellow American Idol judge Lionel Richie, providing an encouraging update on the iconic artist’s health.
Initial Hesitation to Reach Out
During an interview on Good Morning America, Bryan admitted that he was initially reluctant to contact Richie due to his busy schedule and recent health challenges. However, he ultimately chose to reach out.
Positive News from Lionel Richie
“He’s doing well. I talked to him. I didn’t want to call him and bug him, but I called him, said, ‘I love you.’ Then he called me back. He was like, ‘Man, I’m just telling you I’m alright.’ So it was good for him to call me,” Bryan shared.
Concerns Over Richie’s Health
Richie, who is 77 years old, was hospitalized recently for the third time this year due to an irregular heartbeat. His representatives confirmed that he was treated for atrial fibrillation (AFib) and that his treatment was successful.
This health scare followed an incident in June where Richie was taken to the hospital after feeling dizzy during a performance in St. Paul. In August, he voluntarily checked into the hospital for three days for cardiac evaluations after experiencing issues following a concert in St. Louis.
Recovery and Future Plans
Currently, the ‘Hello’ singer is reportedly recovering well and is taking necessary time off before returning to the stage. His recent hospitalization has affected the schedule for the Sing a Song All Night Long Tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, which will now restart on October 16 in Las Vegas.
Reunion on American Idol
Richie also recently made a virtual appearance alongside Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan to announce their return for Season 25 of American Idol. This news was revealed during Bryan’s star-studded concert at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, where he expressed surprise at being able to keep the announcement under wraps.
“I’m so surprised that I’ve been able to keep this a secret,” Bryan exclaimed as he shared the news of their return for the 25th season.
Building Team Spirit
Along with Underwood, Bryan mentioned that the trio has created a group text to stay connected and maintain their camaraderie both on and off the show. “It’s a fun job… The kids are fun. They’re chasing their dreams. We’re rooting for them. The show has a lot of heart,” he said, encouraging viewers to audition for the upcoming season.
While American Idol is set to return in 2027, ABC has yet to disclose a specific premiere date.
