Little Big Town, the beloved country music group, is gearing up for their 2026 For The Art of it Tour, marking a remarkable 25 years of touring together. As they prepare to hit the road once again, they’ve shared insights into a cherished pre-show tradition that has remained a hallmark of their performances throughout their career.
Unity Before the Show
In a recent interview with TODAY, Kimberly Schlapman revealed that before stepping onto the stage, the entire band, along with their crew, gathers for a special huddle. This moment serves as a pause before the excitement of the performance takes over, allowing them to connect and focus.
“We all come together in a room with our band and crew once we’re all dressed and warmed up,” she described. “We might discuss a few show details, say a prayer, share a toast, chant a little, and then we’re ready to go. This has been our routine for every show.”
Evolving Traditions
Band member Karen Fairchild noted that while the prayer has always been a significant aspect of their pre-show ritual, the details have evolved over time. “In the past, we used to recite our favorite quotes from Ron Burgundy, aiming to come up with something new each night. We’d follow the prayer with a humorous quote like, ‘Nope, Milk was a bad choice,’” she recounted, referencing Will Ferrell’s iconic role from the 2004 movie Anchorman.
Celebrating New Releases
The upcoming For The Art of it Tour will promote their latest album, It’s A Dying Art, which was released on August 28 and co-produced by Gena Johnson and Fairchild herself. When asked about their traditions for celebrating significant album releases, Kimberly humorously called out Karen for her penchant for splurging on extravagant purchases.
“She’s got a habit of buying something really pricey, and it seems to get more extravagant each time,” Kimberly joked.
Cheers to New Beginnings
Karen confirmed the playful accusation, mentioning her latest purchase made just the night before. Kimberly reassured Karen’s husband, Jimi Westbrook, that she managed to get a 30% discount on her recent extravagant buy, a stylish pair of Miu Miu boots. “They’re really, really cool,” Karen added with excitement.
As they wrapped up their interview, the band raised a glass to toast to their new journey. Kimberly honored their long-lasting partnership by saying, “Here’s to being together for as long as we have, which truly is a dying art,” while Karen expressed her pride in their new album. She also paid tribute to the late Dolly Parton, emphasizing the importance of kindness and giving in honor of her legacy.
Tour Details
The For The Art of it Tour will commence with three shows in Florida and Georgia, starting in St. Petersburg on September 24. The band plans to visit various cities, including Atlanta, Boston, Orlando, San Antonio, and Chicago, culminating on November 22.
