At just 20 years of age, Lakelin Lemmings has a strong understanding of her identity and the artistic path she wishes to pursue. Hailing from West Tennessee, she has spent years honing her musical style and crafting songs that genuinely reflect her essence, culminating in the release of her self-titled debut album, now available through Quartz Hill Records.
Lemmings proudly explains to Country Now that her 16-track album serves as the perfect introduction to her music and her personal narrative. Instead of choosing a song title as the album’s name, she opted for a self-titled approach, as each song encapsulates a different aspect of her life story.
“This album truly represents who I am and what I stand for. With so many diverse songs, I felt that naming it after myself was the best choice. If you want to understand me and my journey, just listen to this album,” she remarked.
Throughout the album, she delves into various themes including love, heartbreak, faith, family, and the pursuit of dreams. While the songs reflect moments from her young adult life, Lemmings hopes they will resonate with listeners at any stage of their own journeys.
“I want my audience to see that I’m genuine, vulnerable, and chasing my dreams. This album has something for everyone,” she expressed.
Co-writing 15 of the album’s 16 songs, Lemmings collaborated with producer Ash Bowers to shape the project. During her visits to Nashville and time spent in her hometown, she meticulously selected the final tracklist from hundreds of songs, some of which date back to when she was 16 and before she secured her publishing deal.
“It’s been a four-year journey to bring this album to life, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to pour my heart into these songs. Seeing it finally released is surreal,” she shared.
Each song on the album holds significance, including the powerful ballad “Keep The Faith,” which was recommended by Bowers. Initially hesitant about doing justice to the song, she was encouraged by Bowers to give it a try, leading her to a performance that resonated deeply with fans.
“After a show in Vegas, a fan requested ‘Keep the Faith.’ It was amazing to see how much the song connected with them,” she recalled.
In the lead-up to her album’s release, Lemmings introduced fans to her artistry through several singles, demonstrating her versatility. The past year since signing her record deal has been a whirlwind filled with photoshoots, performances, and a radio tour.
“It’s been wild but incredibly fun. This is everything I’ve ever dreamed of,” she said.
From a young age, Lemmings was surrounded by music, which laid the groundwork for her career. Influenced by country legends like Dolly Parton and modern stars such as Miranda Lambert, she combines classic storytelling with her unique voice.
With her debut album now available, Lemmings is excited about future touring opportunities and meeting the fans who have supported her journey.
