Charles Kelley, the 45-year-old member of Lady A, has recently been diagnosed with a rare blood cancer known as multiple myeloma.

In a heartfelt social media post shared on Tuesday, Kelley, alongside his wife Cassie, informed fans about his diagnosis. The discovery of the cancer came after he experienced some unexpected rib fractures, prompting his doctor to order a series of blood tests. Ultimately, the cancer was identified through one of the final tests conducted.

Staying Positive

Kelley is maintaining an optimistic perspective regarding his diagnosis, expressing hope for the future. He stated, “I’m young. I feel healthy, and the treatments have advanced significantly in recent years, making life expectancy much better than it used to be. I feel really hopeful. I truly do.”

Support from Friends

He shared that a friend of theirs was diagnosed with multiple myeloma just weeks before him, and they have been leaning on her for support through this journey. He mentioned, “We have a friend going through this right now, and she’s been sharing her experience. She’s about two months ahead of me in this process, and it has been incredibly helpful to watch her journey.”

Reflection on Sobriety

Kelley, who began his sobriety journey in 2022, compared this health challenge to his previous struggles. He remarked that being transparent about his experiences has been liberating. He aims to continue his work while undergoing treatment, keeping a positive outlook on his life and career.

Future Plans

“In sobriety, it’s all about taking it one day at a time and recognizing that we’re not in control. That’s how we’re approaching this. Right now, I feel great. We have a new record coming out with Lady A, and we have holiday performances scheduled. I believe the first six months of treatment will be manageable, allowing me to continue working,” he shared. He emphasized the importance of immersing himself in his passions and spending quality time with his family.

Understanding Multiple Myeloma

As explained by the Cleveland Clinic, multiple myeloma occurs when healthy plasma cells transform into abnormal cells that proliferate and produce atypical proteins. This condition can lead to various health complications affecting the bones, kidneys, and blood cells.

Family Support

Kelley and Cassie have faced numerous challenges together, including Kelley’s struggle with alcoholism. Cassie has been a constant source of support as he sought treatment, and they continue to stand by each other during this new trial. The couple has two children, Ward Charles, born on February 11, 2016, and Archer Lancaster, born on September 16, 2025.
