Kelsea Ballerini has made a strong statement about inclusivity in music at the Grand Ole Opry. After Stella Lefty made her debut at this iconic venue on September 2, Ballerini, an established member of the Opry, took to social media to support the emerging artist who faced backlash online.
The Grand Ole Opry shared a heartwarming video of Lefty backstage, performing a snippet of her popular song, “Boston,” alongside guest announcers Harper and Charlotte from St. Jude. The joyous atmosphere was palpable as the trio joined hands and smiled, creating a memorable moment.
However, the positive vibes were quickly overshadowed by negative comments online. Many users expressed their discontent, suggesting that Lefty did not deserve her spot on the prestigious stage that has hosted a diverse array of talent over the years.
Recognizing the unjust treatment of Lefty, Ballerini and other country artists swiftly responded. Ballerini voiced her support for the “I Know I Know” singer, emphasizing the Opry’s mission to celebrate a wide range of musical talents. As a member of the Opry, she understands the significance of honoring its history while also embracing new artists who contribute to the genre’s evolution.
In her post, she stated, “As an Opry member, I want to remind everyone that the Opry honors those who inspire us from all backgrounds, and we can express ourselves in ways that connect with audiences. That’s the ultimate goal, right?”
Ballerini described the backstage moment with Lefty as “beautiful” and criticized those who spread negativity, arguing that their comments did not reflect the inclusive spirit of the Opry. She concluded, “It’s about celebrating all forms of country music—old, new, traditional, or contemporary. All of it matters and deserves to be shared on our most cherished stage in country music. Let’s celebrate music as the Opry does. ❤️”
Despite the criticism, Stella Lefty has yet to respond to the negative feedback. She made her debut in the iconic circle and performed her hit song, “Boston,” along with a new track titled “Forever Guy” from her debut album. She also joined her boyfriend, Vincent Mason, for their duet, “Something To Lose.”
In a backstage interview, the Illinois native expressed her excitement about this milestone, saying, “I feel so excited and grateful to be here, mixed with a hint of nervousness. Thank you so much to the Opry for having me. I hope I do a good job.”
Stella Lefty’s 14-track album, “Long Way Home,” is now available and will be highlighted during her upcoming headlining tour of the same name. This tour will take her across the U.S. and includes additional dates in Europe set for March 2027.
She shared her enthusiasm on Instagram, stating, “I’ve been eager to announce these dates and can’t wait to bring this album to you all! You’ve shown so much love from afar, and I can’t wait to sing these songs with you in person! 🥹”
