Kane Brown Reflects on Isolation in Country Music

Kane Brown’s Unique Perspective in Country Music

Despite his impressive success, Kane Brown reveals that he often feels disconnected from the country music community. In a recent episode of The Pivot, he candidly shared his feelings of isolation and the lack of close friendships within the genre.

Feeling Like an Outsider

While many perceive country music as a tight-knit family of supportive artists, Brown admits that he doesn’t always feel included. He discussed this sentiment with hosts Ryan, Channing, and Fred, emphasizing that his closest friends are predominantly athletes, such as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, rather than fellow musicians.

The Challenge of Egos

Brown explained that he often encounters egos in the music industry, which makes him uncomfortable. He appreciates his friendship with Mahomes because it feels more genuine and free of competition. “I think I relate more to athletes because I wanted to be one myself,” he stated. “I feel like I have more athlete friends than musician friends. I feel alone in the music world.”

Building Genuine Connections

Brown acknowledged that he has formed some connections with fellow artists like Morgan Wallen, Shaboozey, Chris Young, and Jason Aldean, who make an effort to check in on him. However, he expressed a desire for deeper, more meaningful friendships within the industry. “I just want a friend in the industry that we can hang out, play golf, and talk,” he shared.

Musical Aspirations and Challenges

As he navigates his career, Brown is also focused on creating music that harkens back to the storytelling style of 90s country legends like Alan Jackson and Randy Travis. He noted that while he aims to produce unique sounds, it’s challenging to stand out in a crowded market where mainstream music often overshadows these efforts.

The Struggle for Authenticity

Brown’s upcoming album represents a significant challenge for him, as he strives for a cohesive theme that reflects his musical roots. He expressed frustration about how certain themes, like trucks and cars, dominate the genre. “I’m trying to make everything throwback,” he explained, “but it’s hard to break away from what listeners expect.”

Looking Ahead

Despite the hurdles he faces, Brown remains hopeful about his new music. He has hinted at a song titled “Losing Hand,” which he hopes resonates with listeners, although he fears it might be overlooked. While a new album is confirmed, the release date remains undisclosed, leaving fans eagerly waiting for more music from the talented artist.
