Joe Henley Shines on ‘The Voice’ with Emotional Cover

Joe Henley’s Standout Performance

On the latest episode of The Voice, Joe Henley, a contestant from Riley Green’s team, delivered a captivating rendition of Keith Whitley’s classic hit, “Don’t Close Your Eyes.” His performance left a lasting impression on both the audience and the coaches.

Captivating Baritone Voice

The Alabama native made an immediate impact as he stepped into the spotlight. His deep, resonant baritone voice lent emotional weight to the beloved country song, allowing him to explore its softer nuances while evoking nostalgia from its original 1988 release.

Simplicity Over Flash

Joe’s performance stood out not for its elaborate staging but for the purity of his vocal delivery. His talent alone garnered the first standing ovation of the evening from all four judges, showcasing his authenticity as a country artist.

A Critical Week on The Voice

This week, known as Cut Week, marked a pivotal moment in the competition. Each coach was tasked with selecting two artists from their teams to advance to the Live Shows, with one additional spot remaining for a final contestant. Riley Green opted to automatically send Cade Mower and the duo Ferryn & Brinkley through, leaving the last position open.

Riley Green’s Praise

After Joe’s heartfelt performance, it became clear he had secured the coveted last spot on Team Riley for the upcoming Live Shows. Kelly Clarkson, one of the coaches, expressed her admiration, stating, “From the first notes out of your mouth, that natural style and tone of your voice is incredible. If you’re not in the finale, I would be mind blown.”

Riley Green also praised Joe’s ability to emulate the signature sound of Keith Whitley, despite his relatively short time in the industry. He humorously remarked, “If I could sing like you, I wouldn’t even answer the phone!”

Looking Ahead

Green later admitted that Joe’s performance made his decision on the final spot even more challenging. Ultimately, he chose to advance Joe, stating, “Every performance today was great. Joe, you crushed it, man.” Fans can look forward to seeing Joe Henley return for the Live Shows of Season 30, which will kick off on November 9, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
