Ian Munsick is set to unveil a significant new chapter in his career with his latest album, The Mountain Goat. This collection celebrates his roots in the Rocky Mountains through a mix of traditional country sounds and contemporary elements.

Album Launch and New Beginnings

Available as of August 21, this 15-track album is Munsick’s fourth studio effort and marks the first project he’s released under his own label, West To The Rest Records, in collaboration with Triple Tigers Records. After leaving his previous label last year, Munsick and his wife, Caroline, felt inspired to create their own label to produce his music.

“When we met with Triple Tigers, their passion was evident. Despite being a small team, everyone wears multiple hats and is deeply committed to each artist,” Munsick shared with Country Now. “They prioritize quality over quantity, which resonates with our own work ethic.”

Hands-On Approach to Music Creation

Munsick’s dedication to his craft is reflected in the album’s production. He co-produced the entire project and played nine instruments, including guitar, banjo, harmonica, and more. His involvement extends beyond just playing; he also contributed to background vocals and music programming.

“Being hands-on has always been vital for me,” he explained. “From my early days as an independent artist, I realized that the music resonates most when I’m involved in every aspect of the creation process.”

Bridging Tradition and Modernity

In crafting The Mountain Goat, Munsick aimed to blend modern sounds with traditional country textures, ensuring that the music feels contemporary yet timeless. Fans have already been introduced to tracks like “Geronimo,” “Medicine Man,” and “Cutthroat World,” but the title track promises an intriguing perspective.

Munsick humorously reveals that the song began as a lighthearted concept but evolved into a statement about his unique place in country music, referencing the abbreviation G-O-A-T, or “Greatest of All Time.”

Aiming for Country Radio

A key aspect of this new phase is Munsick’s aspiration to reach country radio, which he hasn’t fully achieved yet. His team at Triple Tigers recognized the potential of the track “Love Is Blind” and deemed it a strong contender for his first radio hit.

“We’ve had success in touring and streaming, but breaking into radio has been a challenge. Their radio team has an impressive track record, and I felt optimistic when they expressed confidence in ‘Love Is Blind,’” he said.

Celebrating His Roots on Tour

The Mountain Goat serves not only as a representation of Munsick’s artistic journey but also as a celebration of his roots. He is embarking on the Road to The Mountain Goat Tour, which includes stops across several states, with a special show at Deer Valley in Utah on August 22.

Munsick emphasized the importance of returning to his Rocky Mountain roots during this tour. “It’s essential to perform where my core audience resides, the people who have supported my journey in music,” he stated.

Audiences can expect a mix of new tracks and familiar favorites, as Munsick aims to provide a unique concert experience for both new and long-time fans.
