For Gabby Barrett, the most impactful songs are those that allow individuals to find themselves within the narrative. This sentiment is what attracted her to “In On It,” a heartfelt ballad conveying the importance of trusting in the larger scheme of life, even when facing difficult times.
Throughout her career, Barrett has fostered strong relationships with talented songwriters who grasp her unique artistry and can craft songs that resonate with her style. The single, penned by Jon Nite, Jimmy Robbins, and Jimi Bell, was presented to Barrett, who immediately felt a strong connection.
“I adored everything about it—the message, the melody. It felt right. We’re already performing it live at various shows, and the audience’s response has been incredibly positive. That’s truly what every artist hopes for,” she shared with Country Now.
Barrett was particularly struck by the compassion and authenticity embedded within the lyrics. She reflects on the personal connection she felt with the song’s theme, which reminds listeners that even during life’s most confusing times, there is a bigger purpose at play, even if it’s not immediately evident. “The song encourages reflecting on life and understanding that even when things seem unclear, there is a divine plan unfolding,” she explained.
Barrett recalls the uncertainty she experienced at the beginning of her career, especially during her time on American Idol. She worked tirelessly, often questioning if her efforts would bear fruit. “You can never truly predict the outcome while navigating a challenging period. However, I’ve learned that maintaining a belief that things will ultimately work out is incredibly beneficial,” she noted.
Barrett’s commanding vocals shine throughout the song, supported by a gradual build in production that highlights her voice and underscores the meaningful message. The track portrays relatable struggles faced by everyday individuals, including a farmer striving to save his land, a single mother working hard to support her family, and a child battling a serious illness.
By narrating these experiences, Barrett emphasizes the journey of seeking answers while learning to trust in a higher power’s guidance, ultimately delivering a message of hope. “Keep betting on a dream even when you can’t seem to win it… God’s got a plan even if you aren’t aware of it,” she sings in the chorus.
As her first release of 2026, “In On It” sets the stage for the next phase of her musical journey. “This song felt like the perfect introduction to my new creative direction,” she stated. Barrett aims to offer music that resonates deeply with listeners, evoking laughter, thought, and genuine emotion.
In addition to working on her upcoming album, Barrett is preparing to join Parker McCollum on his 2026 tour, kicking off on July 24 at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. “It’s always thrilling to perform for new audiences, hoping they connect with my music on a personal level,” she expressed, adding that her husband, Cade Foehner, and their three children will accompany her on tour.
