Evan James Aims for Live Shows on The Voice with Stapleton Cover

Evan James Brings Country-Rock Flair to The Voice

Evan James has been infusing Team Adam with a vibrant country-rock spirit throughout Season 30 of The Voice. This week, he made a strong bid for a position in the Live Shows by delivering an energetic rendition of Chris Stapleton’s hit, “Midnight Train to Memphis.”

A Captivating Performance

Right from the start, James established an exhilarating atmosphere with the song’s driving beat, showcasing his gritty vocals and unique style. He moved confidently across the stage, engaging the audience and getting them to dance as he presented a performance that seamlessly merged country authenticity with a soulful rock vibe. The Michigan artist transformed the Stapleton classic, highlighting his vocal strength and performance skills.

Standing Out on Team Adam

As the only country artist on Adam Levine’s team, James had a significant challenge ahead and certainly rose to the occasion. He put forth an impressive effort that truly showcased his dedication.

Judges’ Praise

Kelly Clarkson was the first to commend him, expressing admiration for his ability to take on a song by one of country music’s finest at merely 22 years old. “I love your vibe. For someone just 22, rocking that Chris Stapleton song is remarkable. Your vocal performance, especially the ending, shows your determination to fight for this. Well done,” Clarkson remarked.

Adam Levine, his coach, also showered him with accolades, noting that he is “still discovering new facets” of Evan as a performer, including the unique rasp in his voice. “I loved your energy and the way you approached that song. Excellent job today,” Levine added.

Cut Week Challenges

During this week, The Voice introduced the concept of Cut Week. In this round, each coach had to select two artists from their team to automatically advance to the Live Shows. The remaining artists performed for a last chance to secure a spot, which was decided by the coaches.

Adam Levine chose to advance Lexi Stephens and Connor Closs, while Dakota Cohen earned the final Live Show slot after performing Fuel’s “Hemorrhage (In My Hands).”

A Final Chance for Evan

Since Evan James was not automatically advanced to the Live Shows, he faces the possibility of elimination next week. However, he still has an opportunity to be saved. Viewers can vote for one additional artist to join the Live Top 13, with results being announced during a new episode of The Voice on Monday, November 9 at 9/8c on NBC and Peacock.
