Country singer Emily Ann Roberts is taking a lighthearted jab at internet trolls who commented on her appearance by donning a humorous disguise during her ongoing tour with Thomas Rhett.
As part of her fun tour practice dubbed “Operation Ticket Upgrade,” Roberts surprises fans seated at the back of the venue with upgraded tickets. During her latest stop in Phoenix, Arizona, she decided to use the online speculation regarding her appearance—particularly comments suggesting she has a baby bump—as inspiration for her latest disguise.
In a video documenting her latest mission, Roberts addressed the trolls directly: “Y’all are commenting saying, ‘I see a baby bump.’ Did nobody tell you that that’s hateful to tell somebody that they look pregnant?” She added, “Nevertheless, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Operation ticket upgrade in Phoenix, Arizona. It’s going to be a little bit bigger than usual. Let’s transform.”
Roberts crafted her comedic look using a fake pregnancy belly, swapping her glamorous stage attire for a casual pair of jeans and a Thomas Rhett T-shirt before heading out to the audience. She candidly shared, “Well, I hate this more than I thought I would, and I thought I was going to hate it.”
After unveiling her new look to her husband Chris Sasser backstage, his surprised reaction was priceless. He exclaimed, “Oh my heavens. Wow. Is it twins?” To which Roberts quipped, “Congrats, dad. It’s nothing at all!”
The couple then ventured into the crowd to execute the ticket upgrades. During this, Roberts embraced the humor of the situation, stating, “We might not have hits on the radio yet, but we have fun. And now, not only that, we have a miracle on the way.”
As she continued her ticket upgrades, one fan was brought to tears upon recognizing her behind the disguise, making for a heartwarming experience. Roberts concluded the clip with a playful suggestion: “Okay. I’d say that was the ideal operation ticket upgrade. Chris, maybe we should have a baby.”
This week, Roberts will take a break from her tour with Thomas Rhett to return to East Tennessee for performances at Dollywood. She will resume her tour with Rhett on October 22.
