After fifteen years in the music industry, Dustin Lynch feels a significant transformation in his artistry and has tapped into a fresh creative energy, all of which culminates in his seventh studio album, aptly titled Clean Slate. This album symbolizes the new chapter Lynch is entering in both his life and musical journey.
In a conversation with the Grand Ole Opry, Lynch expressed how revitalizing it felt to create this album. “I feel like I’m brand new again, and we had a blast writing this album,” he shared.
The album features twelve tracks that capture Lynch’s experiences, addressing love’s complexities and the pursuit of tranquility amidst life’s turmoil. Each song resonates personally with him, reflecting various aspects of his life journey.
The opening track, “Made In A Bottle,” serves as a honky-tonk anthem centered on the struggle of drowning sorrow over lost love. The protagonist travels from bar to bar, realizing that no amount of escapism can truly erase the grief from a broken relationship.
Such themes of heartache persist in songs like “Talkin'” and “One Tennessee,” where the narrator grapples with moving forward. Meanwhile, “Old Man Knows” stands out as a lyrical highlight for Lynch, inspired by conversations with his grandfather and father, alongside insights from artists he respects.
In a more upbeat vein, the duet “How You Been” with Ashley Cooke captures the nostalgia of rekindling an old flame. The song reflects on whether past emotions can reignite, providing a fresh perspective on their shared history. Lynch acknowledges that this track is akin to a sequel to his hit “Thinking ’Bout You,” sharing his excitement about collaborating with Cooke.
As the album progresses, it hints at aspirations for the future. “Built Us A Life” envisions the possibilities of love, marriage, and family, while the title track, “Clean Slate,” ponders the uncertainties of embarking on a new life chapter.
Lynch describes the title track as the cornerstone of the album, emphasizing its impactful message. “It really centers me, and I hope it resonates with others who need to hear it,” he noted.
Closing the album is “Home To You,” a collaboration with MC4D that merges Lynch’s traditional country roots with contemporary Country EDM influences. This track exemplifies his evolution as an artist while maintaining his authentic songwriting style.
With Clean Slate, Dustin Lynch showcases his growth and readiness to embrace new artistic endeavors. To celebrate the album’s release, he will hold a surprise performance in Nashville on October 30 at 7 PM, marking a thrilling moment for fans.
