Devlin “Duck” Hodges, husband to country music star Lainey Wilson, has found himself at the center of attention not just for his own achievements but also for his connections in the music industry. During his recent guest spot on the Game Runs Deep podcast, Hodges disclosed that several of his friends have been asking him to introduce them to Ella Langley, a close friend of his wife and fellow country artist.
Hodges humorously remarked on the requests, saying, “Some of my friends will come to me and say, ‘Dude, set me up with Ella.’ I feel bad because I might be giving them false hope that I can make it happen.” His lighthearted approach drew laughter, but it also showcased the camaraderie he shares with his friends.
The former NFL quarterback has embraced his new role in the country music scene, often jesting about how he has become “famous twice” — first through his football career with the Pittsburgh Steelers and now through his marriage to Wilson. Hodges reminisced about how he was drawn to Wilson long before her rise as a country music sensation. He recalled hearing one of her songs that piqued his interest, leading him to explore her social media.
Hodges was captivated by Wilson’s Louisiana roots and adventurous spirit, prompting him to seek a way to connect with her. Thanks to mutual friends, he was able to ask her out, and after more than five and a half years together, they tied the knot in May. “We got married in May, and it’s been fantastic ever since,” Hodges expressed.
Reflecting on their first meeting, Hodges shared a memorable moment that solidified his feelings for Wilson. “I pulled into her driveway, and a group of deer dashed out from her front yard. At that moment, I thought, ‘Wow, she might be the one.’” This quirky encounter highlighted their shared interests and the serendipitous nature of their relationship.
Hodges also takes pride in being a source of inspiration for some of Wilson’s songs. He mentioned that the tracks she writes about him often turn out to be his favorites. “It’s cool that I can inspire her without even trying. I know she loves me and it’s nice to give her material to write about,” he stated with pride. He enjoys when a song about him becomes one of her biggest hits.
Life with Wilson has led to unforgettable experiences, including a Christmas spent with Snoop Dogg and participating in an NFL halftime show dressed as Santa Claus. Reflecting on these memories, Hodges said, “Spending Christmas and having dinner with Snoop Dogg was one of the coolest experiences. My life is just crazy!”
