Dolly Parton will not be attending the much-anticipated preview of Dollywood’s NightFlight Expedition in person on Friday. A representative from Dollywood confirmed this information to WVLT, stating that while Parton won’t be there physically, she will participate via a video message.
“Unfortunately, our Dreamer-in-Chief is unable to join us for tomorrow’s festivities, but she will still take part in the excitement via video,” said Wes Ramey in an email to WVLT. “We look forward to having you join us to celebrate our newest addition, NightFlight Expedition.”
The new attraction is finally set to launch after several delays. Originally scheduled to open in the spring, NightFlight Expedition’s debut was pushed back to mid-August.
Eugene Naughton, president of Dollywood Parks and Resorts, mentioned, “When we initially set our ambitious timeline for our largest attraction in history, NightFlight Expedition, we knew we had to do some extra work to ensure everything was ready for operation.”
According to Dollywood’s official website, NightFlight Expedition is a groundbreaking indoor adventure coaster that merges storytelling, excitement, and advanced technology. This immersive ride takes guests on a thrilling journey through the Smoky Mountains, where they will fly over mountain vistas, navigate rapids, ascend steep ridges, and glide across glowing waters—all within a climate-controlled setting. With a moderate thrill factor, this attraction caters to both families and adventure enthusiasts alike, promising a unique experience.
The special preview event for NightFlight Expedition is set for August 14, leading up to its official opening on August 19.
Recently, Parton has faced some health issues. In early May, she announced the cancellation of her Las Vegas residency, which had already been postponed from 2025, while updating fans on her health situation.
“First, it’s concerning my health, and I have some good news and a little bad news,” she shared. “The good news is I’m responding really well to meds and treatments and I’m improving every day. The bad news is that it will take me some time to get back to performing because the treatments make me feel a bit disoriented. Think of me like an old classic car that just needs some restoration before I come back better than ever.”
Despite these challenges, Dolly Parton recently made a public appearance to inaugurate her new travel stop in Cornersville, TN, where she officially cut the ribbon, showcasing her enduring spirit and commitment to her fans.
