This fall, Dasha is stepping back from her music career to prepare for vocal surgery. The talented artist, known for her hit “Austin,” is scheduled to undergo the procedure on October 22 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. The surgery aims to remove nodes from her vocal cords, a condition that has arisen from the demands of her hectic lifestyle.

Causes of Vocal Issues

In a conversation with Billboard, Dasha revealed that her vocal problems stemmed from extensive talking rather than singing. The pressures of touring and the constant hustle of life on the road have taken a toll on her voice. “It’s from the past two-and-a-half years of craziness that just hit me like a truck,” Dasha explained. “You don’t really get a lot of sleep. You talk, talk, talk and you party and you sing. It just caught up with me.”

Seeking Support from Peers

Before her surgery, Dasha sought advice from fellow artist Jordan Davis, who had previously undergone the same procedure at the same medical facility. “He had the same doctor I do, so knowing someone that went exactly through the same thing as me calms me down so much,” she shared.

Recovery Process

Post-surgery, Dasha will need to observe two weeks of strict vocal rest, prohibiting both talking and singing. During this time, she will also engage in vocal rehabilitation to aid her recovery. “You have to retrain your brain on how to talk and know when to exit the party early when you’re starting to hurt, which is not good for me,” she noted.

Looking Forward to the Future

Dasha aims to be fully recovered in time for the CMA Awards and is already planning for a busy 2027, when she intends to release her third studio album. Her fans recently enjoyed a preview of her upcoming music with the release of her new single, “82 Chevy.” This song draws heavily from her personal experiences, reflecting on nostalgia, relationships, and the indelible marks they leave on our lives.

About “82 Chevy”

In discussing “82 Chevy,” Dasha explained, “The song is really about how certain memories linger, even after you’ve moved on from the person or relationship associated with them. Those small details—like the smell of a truck or a song on the radio—become part of who you are forever.” She shared a personal anecdote about finding the perfect truck for the music video, which serendipitously belonged to a fan’s mother in her hometown. “It felt like the universe found the song’s perfect truck for us,” she concluded.
