A multitude of country music stars recently convened in Memphis, Tennessee, for the 36th annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids event. This gathering allowed them to witness the remarkable efforts being made at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Throughout their visit, the artists engaged with patients, forging connections with children who are bravely facing cancer and other serious illnesses.
Since its inception in 1989, when Randy Owen of the iconic band ALABAMA established the Country Cares program, visiting St. Jude has become a significant milestone for many artists in the genre. Owen rallied fellow musicians, country radio stations, and the broader country music community to support the hospital’s vital mission.
Over the years, Country Cares has raised more than $1 billion for St. Jude, ensuring that families never incur costs for treatment, travel, housing, or food related to their child’s care.
This year, notable artists such as HARDY, Anne Wilson, Zach John King, Matt Stell, Mae Estes, Mitchell Tenpenny, and Cole Goodwin traveled to Memphis to demonstrate their support for the hospital and the families it serves.
Returning to St. Jude at the age of 36, HARDY reflected on how the experience resonates differently now that he is a father. He emphasized the importance of using his platform to give back, expressing gratitude for his ability to support causes like St. Jude.
Mitchell Tenpenny, who is also a new father, found that his recent visit to St. Jude deeply affected him, as he could now relate more closely to the parents of patients. Witnessing the struggles and triumphs of families battling childhood cancer struck a chord with him.
Matt Stell echoed similar sentiments, sharing how becoming a parent has transformed his understanding of the hospital’s mission. He praised the profound impact St. Jude has on improving the lives of children.
Zach John King, visiting St. Jude for the first time, expressed his determination to use his musical platform to make a difference, feeling inspired by the hospital’s commitment to combating childhood diseases.
First-time visitor Cole Goodwin stated that seeing the hospital’s work in person changed his perspective and solidified his commitment to support St. Jude.
For Mae Estes, her first visit to St. Jude was transformative, highlighting the strong sense of community that exists within the hospital.
Randy Owen, who has been a consistent supporter, expressed joy in seeing a new generation of artists champion St. Jude’s mission.
During the event, Randy Owen presented Russell Dickerson and his wife with the Angels Among Us Award, recognizing their unwavering support for St. Jude.
St. Jude is dedicated to ensuring that no child dies from cancer, sharing its research globally to aid other medical professionals. To support St. Jude and join the fight against childhood cancer, visit MusicGives.org.
