Ashley McBryde Honors Dolly Parton with Emotional Tribute

A Heartfelt Tribute to Dolly Parton

Ashley McBryde delivered a touching rendition of Dolly Parton’s cherished song during the tribute special, “CMA Presents I Will Always Love You: A Celebration of Dolly Parton.” Her performance of the iconic 1971 track, “Coat of Many Colors,” resonated deeply with both the live audience and the viewers tuning in from home.

Connecting Through Music

Performing on stage at Belmont University, McBryde showcased the song’s poignant narrative, which reflects on a significant moment from Parton’s childhood in rural Tennessee. The song tells the story of the winter coat that Parton’s mother crafted from fabric scraps, as they were unable to afford a new one. To instill a sense of pride in her daughter, Parton’s mother recounted the biblical tale of Joseph and his coat of many colors. Although Parton faced ridicule from her peers, she learned that true richness comes from love, not material wealth.

McBryde’s Emotional Performance

With her guitar in hand, McBryde infused each lyric with heartfelt emotion. Expressing her gratitude for being chosen to honor Parton, the Arkansas native appeared fully engaged in her performance, often looking skyward as if to connect with the legend herself. The performance was heightened by a stunning instrumental arrangement that complemented the song’s narrative.

A Special Moment

“To be selected to be one of the voices that gets to honor her tonight is truly an honorable thing to get to do. To be chosen to sing ‘Coat of Many Colors,’ all I got to do is make her proud,” McBryde shared, highlighting the significance of the moment.

The tribute special aimed to bring together artists from various generations and genres, featuring an impressive lineup of performers, including industry titans like Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, and Reba McEntire. The event also showcased heartfelt tributes from celebrities who have known Parton, including Bono, Carol Burnett, and Oprah Winfrey.
