Following the announcement of the CMA Awards nominees, Alexandra Kay opened up about her feelings in a candid video shared on social media.
In her heartfelt message, Kay revealed the emotional impact of not receiving a nomination, particularly in the New Artist of the Year category. “I just found out that I didn’t get nominated for a CMA Award,” she expressed. “Honestly, I didn’t expect it, as I didn’t feel my year had been successful enough to warrant such recognition. However, I did qualify, as this was my first year with a song on country radio. My track, ‘Straight For the Heart,’ peaked at No. 26 on the charts.”
The disappointment of the CMA nominations coincided with Kay learning that her single was not advancing on the charts, making this period particularly challenging for her. “I worked hard for every chart position,” she shared. “When I was informed that they would stop promoting my song, it felt like a devastating blow. That day mirrored my feelings when the nominations were revealed, filled with tears, self-doubt, and a sense of insignificance.”
Kay emphasized the importance of allowing oneself to experience disappointment. With the support of her boyfriend, Rocko, she processed her emotions fully. “I’m sharing this because I let myself feel that for one day,” she stated. “I tried to adopt the Tony Robbins method, where you only dwell on failure for ten minutes, but that approach doesn’t work for me. After not receiving the nomination, I felt it deeply. Rocko comforted me, and I didn’t suppress my feelings. It’s about how you recover from setbacks, not how often they occur.”
Just a day after her emotional revelation, Kay expressed her determination to move forward. “Here I am on my back deck, preparing for a session with my trainer and getting ready to fly out for a show with Brett Young tonight. I’m writing some of the best music of my career. While I let it affect me, I refuse to stay down. I’ll return stronger next year, and until then, I’ll keep working hard.”
Fans quickly rallied around Kay on social media, offering words of encouragement and applauding her transparency about her feelings.
