Matt Stell Unveils New Single ‘Where I’ll Be’ Inspired by Home

Matt Stell’s New Release

Matt Stell is embracing the beloved country sound with his latest single, “Where I’ll Be.” This track is a heartfelt homage to his roots.

Inspiration Behind the Song

In a conversation with Country Now, Stell revealed that the song was inspired by two friends from his hometown. They dated throughout high school but went their separate ways when the woman left for college. Eventually, they reunited, and despite the time apart, their love story had a happy ending.

“To sum it up, they’re now happily married with kids near where they grew up,” Stell shared.

Collaborative Efforts and Influences

The idea for the song blossomed during a discussion with fellow songwriters Spencer Jordan, Cole Miracle, and Brett Truitt. They bonded over their mutual admiration for country music legend Chris Knight. Stell has been a fan of Knight for over 15 years, considering him one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

Stell referenced a particular Knight song that Montgomery Gentry popularized, which sparked conversations about love, dreams, and returning home. “The song emerged from those discussions, aiming to tell a genuine story while channeling one of the greats,” he explained.

Musical Style and Themes

In “Where I’ll Be,” the Arkansas native paints a vivid picture of small-town life, focusing on a woman who leaves her rural roots for the city to chase her dreams. However, Stell emphasizes that there will always be a welcoming place for her back home when she’s ready to return.

The track conveys the sentiment that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, celebrating the beauty of home with references to farms, woods, local bars, and cherished memories. Stell’s warm vocals, combined with a modern country sound, create an engaging and memorable listening experience. The song is characterized by a catchy melody and relatable storytelling, making it an instant favorite.

Looking Ahead

When asked about a visualizer for the song, Stell confirmed there would be one. The visualizer will showcase the laid-back lifestyle of the countryside, featuring moments of playing cards, enjoying drinks, and appreciating life’s simple pleasures.

“Where I’ll Be” is also a glimpse into what fans can expect in Stell’s upcoming music. He revealed he has been inspired by significant life changes recently and is excited to share these stories through his music.

New Beginnings

Stell has recently signed with Black River Entertainment, a move he feels is an excellent fit for his artistic vision. Since the partnership was announced on May 26, 2026, Stell released “Better Angels,” a collaboration with NE-YO, on May 29.

Stell also welcomed his first child with his wife, Kasey, earlier this year, adding a new perspective to his creativity. Fans can anticipate new music that reflects this exciting chapter in his life.
